What do you enjoy most in your current role and why?
My current role as chief nursing, allied health professional (AHP) and experience officer gives me the chance to make positive change for our nurses, AHPs and our children, young people and families. Supporting the contribution we all make to delivering great care and experience.
Can you tell us about one of the biggest challenges you have had to overcome in your career?
The biggest challenge I have had is managing my own expectations. As I have become more senior, the issues and challenges I deal with have become more complex, meaning often it takes longer to see change or get a resolution, which is hard when I want to have everything done yesterday.
What advice would you give to newly qualified nurses?
Be kind to yourself! We all start with a mountain to learn, its important not to put yourself under too much pressure to be the same as everyone else. Learn from others, but develop your own unique style.
If you were the next health minister, what would you tackle first and why?
Setting a clear strategy for our children and young people – who are the adults of the future and deserve the best start in life, alongside working through our workforce challenges to deliver that care.
What are you looking forward to at Nursing Live this year?
Having so many wonderful nurses come back to Liverpool and experience our amazing city!
