60 Seconds With…. Jay Trondillo

We caught up with advisory board member Jay Trondillo, a specialist care home manager and Registered Nurse, and asked him about his career, his views on the profession, and why he’s supporting Nursing Live.

How and why did you become a nurse?

My passion for caring, and supporting people’s wellbeing, is what made me want to become a nurse.

What inspires you most about nurses and the nursing profession?

I’m always inspired by the nursing profession’s commitment to service, and how nurses can play a vital part in their patient’s care and recovery. Also being part of a wider multidisciplinary team, which supports and prolongs life, is incredibly rewarding.

What is the biggest challenge nurses are facing?

Capacity issues and a lack of manpower. I also think nurses should have more access to career development advice and guidance, and that we need more up to date information to enable us to do a better job.

Do you have a message for nurses?

The best advice I have ever been given is ‘invest in your own development’, and I think all nurses could benefit from that. I’d also say all nurses should be proud of what they do, and the fact it’s a noble and highly trusted profession.

How do you unwind after a day at work?

I like to read articles and books, I watch films and TV shows, plus I love exploring the outdoors.

What are your reasons for wanting to be involved with Nursing Live?

I want to support nursing as a professional, and nurses themselves as individuals.
