Suresh Packiam
Head of service, Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust and founder & general secretary, British Indian Nurses Association
Suresh Packiam is head of service at Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for the specialist nursing and AHP portfolio. With 25 years’ experience in clinical, management and leadership roles, he has a dual nursing qualification gained in India. On moving to the UK, he continued to work as a mental health nurse and managed various services in acute and forensic mental health and also led many service development and transformation projects.
Mr Packiam is the equality, diversity and inclusion chair at his trust, and focuses on addressing health and workforce inequalities. He trained as a cultural ambassador (CA) and works on reducing the risk of discrimination faced by minority ethnic staff during disciplinary processes. He has supported policy level changes to make sure there is CA representation in HR cases where BAME staff are involved. He has completed the NHS Leadership Academy senior leadership programme and is proud to be a Florence Nightingale Foundation global leadership scholar and an alumni of Windsor Leadership.
Mr Packiam co-founded the British Indian Nurses Association, driven by his vision of bringing Indian nurses together to have a strong voice in the UK healthcare system. He is an EDI ambassador for Proud2bOps.
