Ian Pierce-Hayes, senior lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, has worked in the NHS for more than 20 years. He worked as a cardiac specialist nurse based in A&E for 12 years and has worked in several NHS trusts in Cheshire and Merseyside. He continues to teach in practice as an advanced life support instructor. He completed a master of education degree, attained a fellowship with the Higher Education Academy and has taught in higher education for the past 14 years. He has been involved with the Man Hug podcast for the past two years and finds it the most challenging and exciting project he has been involved with.

Mr Pierce-Hayes is chair of a local charity Moving on with Life and Learning. (MOWLL), which is a Liverpool-grown organisation dedicated to the rights and social inclusion of self-advocates with learning disabilities, enduring mental health issues and acquired disabilities. MOWLL’s mission is to provide the best person-focused service to ensure individuals develop socially, personally and professionally.
