Ellen Nicholson, a registered nurse and Queen’s Nurse, joined NHS Resolution in April 2020 as the safety and learning lead for general practice. Her role works collaboratively with general practice and the integrated care systems in England to maximise learning from claims, reduce any future harm and support early and effective engagement in primary care. As a Queen’s Nurse, she is passionate about improving patient care through lessons learnt, education and sharing information with the workforce to ensure safe and effective services.
Ms Nicholson has been a registered nurse since 1991. She graduated from Bournemouth University with a BSc(Hons) and an MA in advanced practice and has worked across directorates in primary, secondary and community care in a variety of senior roles focusing on patient safety, education and workforce. Before joining NHS Resolution, she was previously course director and lecturer at London South Bank University in the primary and social care department and an executive nurse manager for a GP practice at scale.
Ms Nicholson is the former chair of the Royal College of Nursing general practice nurse forum steering committee and a member of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines and standards committees, as well as the Queen’s Nursing Institute aspiring leaders programme. She is an RCNi and Health Service Journal awards finalist, a judge for the annual General Practice Awards and has published journal articles on nursing and the workforce.
