Diogo Gomes
Advanced nurse practitioner - information and advisory Haemochromatosis UK
In 2013, Diogo Gomes registered as an adult nurse in Portugal, and eight years later joined the charity Haemochromatosis UK, which supports people affected by this genetic condition. After moving to the UK, he gained experience in various settings ranging from primary to secondary care. His nursing career has evolved over the years and he has worked as deputy charge nurse in an NHS trust, which led him to undertake a postgraduate course in advanced practice, and then go on to work as an advanced nurse practitioner in acute medicine. This gave him broad experience and knowledge of different health conditions.
Since joining Haemochromatosis UK, he has actively contributed to genetic screening projects looking at early identification of genetic haemochromatosis with robust genetic counselling provision thereafter.
Diogo Gomes is speaking at the following session on Wednesday 23 October:
An introduction to Genetic Haemochromatosis (GH): the most common and undiagnosed genetic condition in the UK
