Bianca Ysabelle Esmeralda is a senior nurse in the critical care division, board of medicine at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). She graduated with a master’s in leadership and service improvement from London South Bank University and aims to publish a systematic review titled ‘Authentic Leadership and Transformational Leadership: How They Influence the Job Satisfaction of Nurses Working in an Adult Intensive Unit’.
As an accomplished international nurse with 30 years’ experience and a nursing degree completed in the Philippines in 1994, she has worked and led different clinical areas such as medical, surgical, operating theatres and critical care units. Her nursing career in the UK started in Manchester in 2001 as a leader and educator in acute medicine. It continued flourishing as she commenced her employment in ITU at UCLH.
She continues to advocate safe care in the context of her role as a senior nurse. She continues her work with the Harm Free Care Committee, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion steering group, health and well-being champions, PROUD (LGBTQ+) network and transgender subject matter expert. Her lived experience and strong drive to influence safety culture and positive staff and patient experiences, including psychological safety, enabled her to create a project and initiatives supporting transgender staff and patients through a series of lectures and engagements within UCLH and North Central London Integrated Care System.
